I found this piece of maple in a bin labeled 'firewood'. I'm glad it followed me home. Measures 12" in diameter.

Looks like you are getting some great wood these days!

Nice job turning. I'll bet there is a lot of chatoyance in that piece.

There really is a lot of chatoyance, unfortunately it doesn't show well in the picture. And yes, I'm finding some good wood! A local arborist has giving me some nice black locust and spalted birch as well as some red maple (yes, the wood is red, okay, maybe more pinkish). This was a cutoff that was destined for the firepit.
