I haven't had much time in the shop since I'm taking my stepson to radiation everyday so I planned a project that I could do a little each morning and evening. I needed a stand for my rotary carving tools. I scrounged up a bunch of scrap 2x4 and 2x6 pieces. I made the column in 3 parts due to the wood I had. Glued up 2 pieces each for the bottom and middle section. turned the top out of one piece. The base was some short 2x6 pieces I had that were cut offs. It will have wheels installed after the paint dries. You can see the Foredom's laying on the back of the lathe. I'll put some hangers on it and hang those along with a Dremel with it's flex shaft.

John -- That's fairly ornate for such a utilitarian piece -- and I like it! I'm sure it didn't take much longer to turn an attractive column and to give the feet a pleasing shape, but it will be much more enjoyable to use for years to come. Well done.

I sweep up at the end of every day or sometimes at the end of each project depending on how big of a mess I make. I've always been that way and my new wife really really hates having me track in shavings. I have a sidewalk that is about 15 yards long to the shop. I've thought about putting a series of doorways with those fans that would blow forcefully to blow the shavings off. It's either that or one of those walk through shower decontamination booths. :)

Got all the flex shaft machines on the stand now. That should allow me to work faster. Just like chucks, you hate to have to change jaws to get the tool you need. Now I can have the two most common size dremel chucks already in the machines and the same with the Foredom.

Now, all you need is an extension cord and a power strip, so you can plug them all in, and a platform on the base you can screw the foot switches to, and a rack to hold all your favorite bits and wrenches.

When it falls over on you and you are so tangled up in the cords you can't reach the phone to call 911, don't say I didn't warn you. :D

Mine has a lazy Susan with a ring of holes around the perimeter to hold a large (but not large enough) selection of turning tools. I have to stack boxes on the floor all around it so the shop dogs won't run underneath it and cut themselves, so it isn't as mobile as I had hoped.

This is actually more stable than what I was using before so shouldn't be a problem. I do like the idea of the power strip.

I need one of those! I have one Foredom hanging, another on a shelf, and various Dremels and engravers hanging in different spots.

I was thinking of some kind of stand but then wondered if it should have drawers for bits and such. It's getting complicated.
