Finish

The finish on this piece consists of two coats of gloss Arm-R-Seal followed by two thin coats of Arm-R-Seal satin, all applied with a rag.

Top fit

The top is a friction fit that tightens up nicely when you rotate it, presumably because of a slight difference in the shape of the tenon. My thought was that my bro would probably want to fix the lid permanently with a bead of silicone after he interrs her ashes in it. That's up to him.

I never thought of trying to thread the lid, but I might have if I knew how. That's an area of turning I have never tried except on machine lathes.

I appreciate the kind words.

In retrospect, I don't usually turn dry wood and only rarely in spindle orientation, so this was a bit of a departure for me in the way the tools cut and the whole tactual feel of turning it. Not unpleasant, but a little more challenging than my usual hollowform efforts.
