I agree John, Mark did an excellent all day Demo and a hands-on workshop here in Knoxville. I really like his demos, which are very enjoyable, creative, technical, practical and instructional. Everyone will learn something. If you haven't seen him, I would encourage you to do so. Heck get your club invite him down for a couple of days.

Looks like he had everyone's attention. Ssafety talks speak about girls long hair being dangerous so maybe he might want to tie back his beard. A couple braids tied abound in back might do it.

My first thought was about his beard getting caught when I saw the pic. I know Mark is an old pro, and I have great respect for his expertise..........perhaps that was just posing for the pic, and not his usual turning approach without any protective gear, and beard dangling near the turning spindle. Of course he does not have a long blank on the lathe, just a stub of something that he looks to be hollowing.......perhaps there was no danger at all......I will cut him some slack in this particular setup.

His beard scared me, too

Well he was turning a small item and Mark has been turning for a very very long time. I believe he's had that beard the whole time I've known him which is also a long time.

As a plug for the North Carolina Symposium the first Weekend in November, Mark is on the program with six demonstrations over three days - just like Graham Priddle, Jason Schneider, Derek Weidmann, Beth Ireland, and a BUNCH of other folk.

Is this a typo? I can't find any info on a woodturner named Randolph Lopez using Google. Could it be

Rudolph Lopez (Rudy Lopez)?

If it is, could you pass this on to the right person for a correction?

I plan to attend that symposium - thanks much for the heads up. Fantastic line-up of demonstrators. It looks like the event could use about three more days!

You're welcome! That was a quick cell phone snapshot. If I'd known it would have a national audience I would have used a real camera!

I did think it was a good shot of Mark, action, rather than a studio pose.
