Sphere with coil

As some of you know, Lauren and I enjoy experimenting with combining materials and techniques.

I turned the 2.5" hard maple sphere, and she embellished it with archival ink. It sits atop a wood coil printed on one of my delta style 3D printers. It's dual filament, with the body printed with wood filament, and the removable/dissolvable supports printed with PVA.

Very creative piece for you two. Should be a blue ribbon in its future.

Dave, thanks for the kind words.

However, we are shy, demure types, so we don't submit into competitions.

This piece was done as a swap between Lauren and Donna Banfield.

It's great when artisans appreciate each other's work and want to share.

Wood filament?

Dick Coers

Is that wood flour extruded into a filament with a binder? What percent of the filament is wood?

This particular filament is 30% pine.

Alan,

OK, there's two much creativity allotted to you two.

Is this with the printer you showed and wrote about here? It it time to sell that one to me and build another?

John,

I am down to two delta printers. I sold my original Cartesian style printer to a friend.

You can see the two printers at the very beginning of this video about the dual filament capability of my larger printer.
