We live on a small 75 acre lake. The path runs right through the middle of it so watching from our dock will be incredible. We haven't thought far enough ahead to have an eclipse party

In the 70's Perry, Fla was the best spot in the USA for watching a total eclipse. About nine minutes. Attended with 8yr old daughter and about a thousand telescopes of all portable sizes at old naval air station. Only it rained all day. It was weird watching birds and moths respond and unchanged 9 minutes later.

I was an astronomy student at Vanderbilt then -- we drove down to Florida to see the eclipse and got the rainy darkness as well.

Oh, I forgot to tell you. I'm coming to your place for the eclipse. Our place is outside the band of totality.

I have an 8" scope and a high quality objective solar filter. I also use a smaller scope to project the eclipse for schools.
