Heading to the TAW symposium

John K Jordan and I will head out sometime today to be there by 7PM or earlier. Really looking forward to this one. I seriously need a break and there's no better way than hanging out with friends at a symposium. Look me up if your there. I'll probably spend a lot of time in Mike Hunter's booth to answer questions.
What a lot of fun

Met some wonderful people and of course met a lot of friends. Can't say enough about that. The Vendor area was really fun. I bought one of the largest Banksia Pods from my friends at BigMonk lumber. Can't wait to use that. I already have an idea. Also go some really interesting wood from them.
Mike Hunter has 2 new tools. One is perfect for hollowing smaller ornaments and boxes.
I got to know and spent time with Joe Flemming who is now selling the Grex airbrushes. What a great guy who is really knowledgeable and helpful.
Talked to my friend at Chucks Plus. They have some new jaws that are really great and he said he will be producing his chucks in the USA shortly. That should be good news for all.
Ken Rizza has a new random orbital sander that is really nice, plus some other little sanding gadgets.
I bought a new quick release chuck from Vince's woodnwonders. If fits in your angle drill and locks the hex shank mandrels in place with a quick release adaptor.
I sat in on one of Cynthia Gibson's demos. I always learn something new from her even though I've seen and talked to her quite a bit.
Nick Agar is always great and really funny. Can't tell you the joke about the tin man but might be worth seeing him just to hear that one.
Stephen Hatcher did a really great job of explaining exactly what he does and all the tools and chemicals to do it.
I only got to see a little of Frank Penta's demos but it sure seemed interesting.
Next year they have already booked Betty Scarpino and Jimmy Clewes. I forgot who else he said but those two should make your trip worth whiile. There were 417 attendees making it the largest ever TAW symposium.

Bill May from Arrowmont was there and gave a very moving discussion of what happened and how the school will still be open and holding classes. 2700 homes were destroyed around Gatlinburg. 20% of the proceeds from the TAW auction will go to Arrowmont to help them rebuild.
What bill asked in the way of help was to let them do what they do best, teach. He asked everyone who can to simply take a class to help them get back to normal.

And he asked that people spread the word that Arrowmont is open for business with a full schedule of classes. I guess some might assume they are shut down for a while.
