unusual mirrors

Many years ago I was having a conversation with Betty Scarpino and she suggested I make a mirror handle that was easier for people with arthritis to hold. I made a few drawings back then but that all got put away when I had to move. I was going through them the other night and found them. These don't actually have a handle per se. The handle is the knob on the back of the mirror that is quite easy to hold. the first one I designed I called "If John Jordan made hand mirrors". That's a joke but I hope John likes it. It certainly was fun trying to copy John's technique. I used Ambrosia maple. Inside the hole is a 2" mirror so it looks deeper like a hollow vessel. The second one is a screw lid box that is the handle. This one still needs lot's of work to get a decent design but it was fun playing with. It is Mahagony with dogwood top.
The last one is a sketch I made on a napkin a very long time ago. When I'm famous I'll auction off that napkin.
It came out quite good although I could not get the gold rub-n-buff in the middle to stand out in the photo. Probably would have to shoot it at more of an angle where I could put a white card at the reflective angle for the gold to get it to stand out. It's made from Red heart.
