Norway Maple Salad Bowl

I was going through my pics and ran across this piece. It is a 16" wide by about 7" high Norway maple salad bowl. I used a combination of yellow over red milk paint to enhance the outer rim. After applying the yellow paint, I sanded through the yellow to reveal some of the red. It gives the piece a kind of antique look. The overall finish is mineral oil and beeswax. C&C welcome.

George, That's very subtle. I had to look twice. I really like the contrast on the outside (alone) and the contrast between the outside and the inside.

It's a beauty! The Norway maple that I have turned is really very white and has numerous holes left by the bugs. So I would never have guessed your piece to be Norway maple. I wonder if I am missing something.

I have experienced the same thing with Norway Maple. This was not a buggy tree, so no bug holes.
The tree was near the owner's house and he was concerned about possible damage to his home, so he had it taken down.
There also happened to be a small burl on a limb higher up on the tree.😃
