Ornaments for the Children's Hospital

John K Jordan

The Knoxville club made over 200 ornaments for the Fantasy of Trees this year. Some were simple and some were quite fancy. Instead of pricing the entire tree as in past years, this year the ornaments were displayed on a tree and offered for individual sale.

I just found out that someone who wanted to buy the tree last year was first in line this year and bought the entire tree. Given a price of $3400, they instead gave us $4000 for the Children's Hospital in Knoxville.

Thanks to all the woodturners here and in the many other clubs who turn to help the children.

way cool. Hope our tree in Crossville does that well. I've made 5 more for the tree donation. I've made 4 more square ones for me to keep.

John,

Thanks for the update. That is great news for the Knoxville Children's Hospital. This kind of support is why I like to make the ornaments and donated them to the Knoxville and Crossville clubs. Charity work is rewarding.

Jake,

We ran into Drue on the way in yesterday and he gave me the story. I was hoping to see the tree but it was long gone by then! That's good news!

Now to get started on some more BOC containers. I wish I had some of your shop time. Or just 10% of John Lucas' turning time! Judging from his productivity he has to be spending 30 hours a day in the shop. :-)

Glad to see good friends still supporting this fine endeavor. I continue to miss the great folks in the Knoxville club...

Fantastic fundraiser, and a great idea. I have never participated in one of these Christmas tree efforts, but will propose it to one of my local clubs for next year.

Did anyone get photos of the decorated tree?

We are fortunate to have the gala Fantasy of Trees event every year which specifically raises money for the Children's Hospital. There are many trees for sale, along with, wreaths, gingerbread houses, and other things donated by various groups, businesses, and individuals. There are lots of little shops, live entertainment, photographers (get a photo printed on an ornament, etc), a variety of crafts for kids, a carousel, and lots more. This goes on for 4 days and thousands of people come.

Our tree was long gone by the time I got there on the 3rd day of the event so I didn't get pictures. In fact, we are told it was gone very early the first day!

I do have some pictures from last year to give you an idea of the variety of ornaments. Some members turned a LOT of ornaments!

Our club's tree last year is in the center:
