Video reviewers needed

Ellis Walentine

I am wondering if anyone might be interested in viewing and reviewing turning videos for WoodCentral. I started a video review section years ago and ran out of time and steam. Now, though, we have a new advertiser who has a couple videos that we would like to review, and I need a reviewer (or reviewers) who can write clearly and offer knowledgeable critiques of turning videos. If you're interested, contact me via email.

Okay, I am humbled by the number of you who volunteered to help with video reviews. At the moment, I don't have enough videos to go around for all our reviewers, SO...

Here's what I propose:

1) If you have volunteered to write a review, do you have videos in your personal library that you feel are valuable or wonderful, that you would like to submit a review for consideration. All I need is a decent scan of the DVD cover along with your review of the video itself, say in the 500 word range. Remember that I'm an editor and I have this nasty editorial habit of suggesting or requesting clarification where I think it is necessary. I don't want to do a lot of rewriting, though, so consider your first effort a honeymoon.

2) If you are not interested in reviewing but you have suggestions for favorite videos you think we ought to review, please forward your suggestions to me and I'll add it to the list. Please note that we did manage to upload several reviews when I started this department many moons ago. Please check out the list to make sure you aren't duplicating any that are already done.

3) If you think you might want to be an official coordinator and/or editor in training for turning video reviews going forward, contact me about that, too, via e-mail please.

Any and all suggestions are always welcome.

Thanks for the enthusiasm. Videos are a great way to learn techniques. Nowadays, so many of them are on YouTube, maybe we should start compiling a list of notable YouTube videos, too. I'm definitely going to need an assistant for all this, but it should be fun and worthwhile.
