Part for Nova and ? about delivery services

Unfortunately, due to the nature in which I purchased the lathe, the warranty does not apply.

However the part is inexpensive and has been ordered.

It will be interesting to see if this "cures" the toolslide locking problem or if I have a bit more filing.

The tech I spoke to at Teknatool was concerned about other parts and urged me to go through the lathe. I was told that when first introduced they had a slew of these returned because SOME delivery companies would take them off the pallet and loose pieces, break pieces by literally shoving it out the back of a van on to the ground.....These problems have been resolved.

I talked with him at length about how and where I purchased the lathe, honesty being the best policy.

With that being said, how many of you have had problems with delivery services mistreating a package? or handling with extra care?

When I bought my Jet 1642, Estes was very nice, scheduled delivery, and told me they could put the pallet anywhere I wanted. The driver called to inform me, and took a lot of care unloading.

I don't know about home delivery, but a friend of mine goes to freight auctions and buys stuff to resell. One of the auctions is Estes. I think its every two weeks and there is a warehouse full of stuff. Two hundred to three hundred pallets of stuff. There are two other similar auctions in the area. Some of the stuff was refused by the receiver and some of it is obviously damaged. Some of it is so badly damaged that scrap dealers buy it and recycle it. The array of stuff is really astounding. Recently he bought a Viking range that apparently fell on it head and was beyond repair. He paid thirty bucks. It was originally $3500. He is parting it out.

So if you think freight getting damaged is rare, you are mistaken.

I sell and ship mailboxes all over the country, with several carriers. Unfortunately each step in the freight line from factory to customer is a potential for loss or damage. The chain is only as good as the worst employee / procces. wish I could say its rare.

At one time I was a shipping/receiving manager at a local wholesaler here in Albuquerque. I refused numerous items that were damaged: Estes, Yellow, R&L, CF (crushed freight), Viking, FedEx, etc. Didn't matter who was the national carrier, they would find ways to damage anything. The only freighters I did not have any problem with was private carriers - their dime if was broke.

Thanks Bart!

I think shipping and outsourcing has become a HUGE issue with a lot of manufacturers.
