Beall buffing system.

Wayne Cooper Charlotte NC

>I bought a Beall buffing system. The one that connects to a 1/2 hp motor. I bolted the spindle on to a motor that I have that turns clock wise. The buffing wheels come unscrewed. I would assume it is designed to fit on a motor that turns CCW. Is that correct?? Thanks for all the help. Wayne

>I have the same problem with a buffing wheel that I put together. I'm going to try to solve the problem by double-nutting it, but am curious to see the replies you get.

>The Beale wheels I bought were intended to mount on a morse taper in the lathe spindle so they normally turn CCW. This makes the front turn downward which I think you would want for best control. If your motor turns the other way you may want to put the wheel on the left, assuming you can solve the locking problem. Seems like double-nutting and/or a few drops of locktight should take care of the threads.

>In most cases you can change the direction the motor rotates by swapping a couple of wires. If the diagram isn't right on the motor, any repair shop should know how. Swapping the red and black wires are how a couple of my motors were done.

Thanks,

Sam

>Beal sells an adapter for a grinder weel on the left side. It is threaded for oposite rotation. Give them a call and they will tell you the cost. I have one on the left side of my slow speed grinder, so I have two wheels mounted at one time.

Wayne said the problem was "The buffing wheels come unscrewed."

Hope this helps,

Thanks for all

>your help. I will check tonight and see if I can reverse the motor. I probably have another motor in the top of the barn. I am just too lazy to sort through all the junk to find it. I really appreciate all the excellent responses. Wayne
