What is the finish on that gorgeous piece? I've got a really nice piece of cedar air-drying, and am looking forward to working it in a few months.

>David, several coats of Tung Oil. Wade told me that he had had the Cedar about 1 year, and the problem of cracking e=was tremendous. I tried to turn an old piece of cedar it was beautiful, but, I was not successfulin turnig it. The only way to hold it was on a face plate. By the time I learned that...... Too late.

>I turned a piece of cedar into a cup not too long ago. Picked up a crotch at curbside, cut it down, rough-turned green, then just paper-bagged for a few days until I couldn't stand it anymore, and then finish turned it (very little warping), tung/wax, and done.

What I found was 1) The stuff cracks like crazy in a hurry, and 2) a little sanding goes a long way with this wood (very easy to get score marks.

What surprised me about your piece is how dark and red it got with just the tung oil. It is such a rich color. The cup I turned is very light in color.
