>As you all know, I am trying to teach myself hollowing. Today I was "initiated." I now know how to recognize the sound of a tool on "too thin wood"! If I clean this up, it will make a handy funnel for pouring oil back in the can. :)

>Dang, Hate it when that happens!! but the good news is it probably won't be the last time. ;^) Looks like you were going for pretty thin walls, how thick is the rest of it?

>Actully, I went thru this one from the outside! I had been just playing around trying to get the hang of that Hollowmaster by hollowing out a piece of scrap. The hollowing went pretty well so I decided before I trashed it, that I would see if I could shape the outside into a little vase. Obviously I misjudged where the bottom of the inside was! And yes, I do know that one would normally turn the outside first and then do the hollowing, but I was just playing. :) It was about 1/8" at the top.

>That's really neat. "Can't have too many funnels around the shop," I always say.

I've got a few of those, myself. None of which are as neat as this one!

>Carol this might be a quick way to make bracelets. Turn a bunch of beads on a cylinder and then hollow "thru" the inside. Beads done.

>I have done a few of them this month, but from the inside out.

From the posts I see we should open up a store specializing in custom made funnels! A place for the whole group to contribute to.

>The bottom half of my first box looked like this. I had completely finished it and was parting off the bottom and, well, I mis-judged the depth and I wound up with a box with no bottom. Makes it real hard to contain anything.

I also keep a ring of walnut hanging on the wall next to my lathe to remind me how easy it is to turn too thin.

Just keep turning and experience the journey.
