Willow for turning?

David

>I listened to my neighbor's chainsaw singing all day Saturday, and took a look on Sunday. Willow and lots of it. With permission, I picked up a couple of pieces (crotches). How is willow for turning? Also, I am forced by budget to cut my bowl blanks by hand(bow saw). Is willow brutal to cut?

Thanks -

>I got ahold of 2 small pieces a while back.

It was taken down becaue it was a hazard here at work.

Turned out to be too far gone. But the pieces I tried, every now and then, I'd see some beautiful grain in amongst the punkiness.

Frizzy and wet.

Mark Mandell - Gone Round In Jersey

>Have your wet weather gear on when you turn it, and keep tools VERY sharp as it feathers badly, somewhat like cottonwood but without the high urea content and smell. Fast grower so the rings are often wide. Not impressed with it after a couple of tries.

Good Luck

>Which one is it? Saw several pretty pictures but nothing to tell us what each piece is made of.
