Totally OT but....

>Where else can I complain? I am getting ready to put my F350 on the market so I took the truck to the shop to get the door locks working and the electric window that worked when it wanted to and rested as it saw fit. The little plastic lock actuators were nearly $100 each times 4; yep, times 4. Even though I rarely unlock the rear doors the back actuators were the first to go. My dad has a 63 Ford with electric windows that still work and have never been worked on. This same truck has had the rear-end rebuilt twice....once by Ford and the second time by an independant shop. You guessed it....the one rebuilt by Ford didn't hold up and the current one done by an independant is fine. The independant shop told me that the original unit is put up too tight and that it needs a little more clearance than the specs call for. Total cost for all these unnecessary problems...$3000. Will I buy another? Not in this life. My replacement truck is about ready for the road. Anyone want a "like new F-350?" (no pun intended).

>Hi Terry,

I sent you an e-mail about the truck.

I am surprised that you needed 4 actuators. I used to work on electric windows/locks and I don't think I've ever seen all 4 actuators go. Of course, I was working on GM's so that could be the reason. 8^} The back ones probably went first because they didn't see much use. Like any other mechanical contraption,(and people, too) sitting around doing nothing is hard on them.

same Dana rear-end.

tdaniel

>unfortunately Chevy, Ford and Dodge all use the same Dana rear-end. The fluid for it costs $100 for about a quart. After having an independant rebuild it the cost for the fluid is $8. By the way, maintenance costs posted above should have been $5000, not $3000.

Allow me to help you feel better

>On Friday, I purchased a new (to me) minivan, accepting an offer from the dealer on a trade for my car with 165K miles. Friday, I signed the paperwork, and was asked to return Saturday to finish the paperwork when finance-boy would be in the office. New vehicle can be picked up Monday (today).

So I went back Saturday. This is all they wanted:

1) I owe $5.50 more, because the registration estimate they used Friday was a couple bucks light.

2) Do I need a loan?

3) Do I have clear title on the car I'm trading.

They have known for a week that a loan was not necessary. Yes, I have clear title on the car, and by the way, that question could have been asked at any time.

The dealer does not seem to understand why I would be upset with them for having me drive 20 miles round trip to hear about and extra $5.50, since it was pointed out to me on Friday that the registration fee was an estimate. .0379% of the purchase price. Not 3%. .0379%. After a few words I walked out. Then I walked back in and signed, because I knew that today would be a mess if I didn't.

For pity sake, just write it off. Absorb it. I don't think the dealership would be in any danger of bankruptcy.

Tonight they will hear some more. I'm a pretty easy guy, but nothing torques my shorts more than getting jerked around over nothing.
