Diamond Dresser

David

>Hi -

I'm looking for a Delta 23-006 Diamond Dresser on line (or one that works the same way that might cost a couple bucks less?), and pretty much all I'm finding are websites that tie to Amazon, and I really don't want to buy from Amazon because the process of going through the screens is ridiculously long, and they want approximatley thirty-zillion dollars to ship it.

Can anybody make a recommendation of where to buy this reasonably (combination of unit price & shipping option). I'm defining reasonably as less than or equal to the $19.89 that amazon wants plus shipping that is something on the order of $5.

I've purchased a few high-priced tools recently, and I've reached my zenith on backing up the cash truck - especially for something as ridiculously simple as this. A handle shaped like a razor with diamond dust glued on the end of it should not cost $30 (inclusive of shipping).

Very, very, very frustrating......

I have been turning wood for about 12 years now. I consume about 20 hours a week in front of the lathe making primarly bowls and platters. I keep thinking about making other "stuff" on the lathe, and ocasionaly I even get beyond the thinking part. But I take the most pleasure in bowls and platters. I have most every tool availble for the lathe but I am always looking for a new tool. More than looking for a new tool I am looking for a new hunk of wood. While a corner woodworker (sometimes called flat woodworker) can never have enough clamps, I find most woodturners can never have enough turning stock. The woodturning club I belong to has a Christmas party each year and part of that party is a "grab bag". We bring in a turning, that is judged by the people who come to the party. The people who make the top three turnings get prizes (like sandpaper or a tool). The real prize though is the exchange of turnings that comes from this colection of turnings. Some of my most cherished turned objects are the ones I have recieved from these grab bags.

>Woodcraft did/does carry what I was looking for, but here's a hint for anybody looking. If you look in their catalogue or on their website, you won't see it.

On their website, they describe dressing accessories, but put the same picture next to each of the different types. Not terribly helpful to the novice. So I called them, described what I was after, and they dug one up. It was $15. I believe they have a bunch of them, but they were discontinued or something.

I did look in a couple of local hardware stores, and just didn't see anything. Such a simple tool, so hard to find.

Thanks for the help!
