I am devistated!

I am devistated!

chris K in MD

>With great anticipation I left work early today to meet the trucking company that was coming to drop off my new 3520A.

Only to see that the box was damaged and the motor control box badly broken.

I had to refuse the shipment. I mean its just a lathe but I cant convey how dissapointed I am right now. Even my 5 year old has taken pitty on my pathetic state of sulking.

The power had been run, space made, and blanks ready - to wait some more

Who is hoping his boss will let him off, to try it again

>Oh that sucks! Good thing you noticed though. Hang in there.

You did the right thing...

tdaniel

>You would think that companies who build lathes could also build crates but more than one cannot. I gave up selling one brand of lathe because of constant shipping damages. On the other hand, I have never received even one minor part with a scratch from VB. The best thing to do when you see damage to the crate is refuse shipment; let someone else go through the hassle of replacing the broken parts and repainting. I am sure you'll have your replacement lathe in a few days.

Good luck with the next one.

>Oh man that's a bummer. My friend and I drove to Lavergne to pick ours up. It was all my little 4 banger truck could do to haul 2 powermatics and a heavy trailer. Hang in there. It will be worth it.

>Smart move! I agree with Terry, how much extra can a full crate cost? Good things come to those who wait. You'll enjoy the replacement that much more.

>I know how you feel. I ordered a band saw. When it came, the crate was fine and I signed for it. The trucker used his lift gate to set it on the ground and drove off. I dragged it inside and carefully opened it. It was the wrong saw. It was set up for metal cutting at slow speed and I had ordered the wood cutting version. Went round and round with them, they expected me to reload it and they no longer had access to the lift gate truck. Sure.

Would it help if each of us sent a note for you to take to your boss?

You will need to make something on the new one for that five year old.

>Major bummer! So very sorry for the delay, that is no fun at all - but, you did do the right thing. And if it makes you feel any better, I had a band saw shipped three times before I got a machine that hadn't been thrown around in the truck...

>Chris- did you get a new delivery date? I recently heard that 3520a's are backordered?

>Oh Jamie!!! Kick a man while he is down. You mean guy you!

Best to get it in good shape to start with. There are so many tools on the market now you have to spend hours on brand new to get them running right.

I am sure you will be turning in no time.

>Thank you everyone for your support, I played with the kids and had a few ales to ease the pain. I also made several phone calls because I also heard that the supply of these lathes were dwindling. But alas one is supposed to be shipped today and I have a 50% shot at having it on friday. I also talked with both frieght companies (it requires two companies to get to my house) and they have insured me that they have it flagged for expediting and special handling instructions IE strapped to the wall of the truck. I have my fingers crossed.

Thanks again for your support. FWIW I am quite sure that general industrial will have a S&D unit in the next week or so ;-)

Chris

Feeling much better, but still wishing he was turning on his new toy

>I was just about to mention if they didn't expedite this and give you priority, then that's there right. But it seems like exceptional service comes with this good bargain! It makes me jealous and elated everytime another onw of you guys makes the decision to upgrade! My fingers are crossed and I'll ask my wife to look up the patron saint of woodturners for a brief prayer...

>This reminds me of the time I refused shipment of a drill pres when I ordred a bandsaw from Laguna Tools. Acouple of days later they informed me that the shipment was indeed my bandsaw, that they just label everything as a drill press for the freight co. Go figure !

Round & Round

>Chris, so SORRY to hear about that! I ordered mine from Peter/Bob too. Thanks for the info by the way. Didn't get your price, but got close. Anyway, I called WMH today to check the status on it and the lady said, "Is this the one that tipped over?" I nearly had a heart attack! Then she said, "no, that was another one" (sorry to hear it was yours!)Then she gave me my info.

Of course, mine is shipping from TN to Idaho, so who knows what will happen to it along the way. Keeping fingers crossed!
