Be sure that you clamp it well for a couple of minutes before mounting on the lathe.

With this I can do a glue up every thirty minutes while still using my lathe. That way the long curing time is no problem. I like to have it cure for at least 24 hours.

>Wally - As I understand your procedure - you have turned the foot to finish as well as the underside of the platter prior to fastening the glue block with tape.

My question is -- doesn't that leave the foot too flat? Shouldn't the foot be slightly concave?

>Doug, I recess an area of the foot a little larger than the faceplate. Besides looking good, it makes it easy to center the faceplate. However, I have an accurate way to center the faceplate. Turn a piece of hardwood with a morse taper to fit your tailstock, turn a spigot with shoulder, that fits inside the faceplate opening, mount the faceplate, complete with tape, then slide the tailstock up to the platter base, then back it off. Voila, the faceplate is attached and centered. The platter still needs to be removed and the faceplated clamped on for a couple of minutes.

Thanks Wally

I have a threaded adapter for the live center so I can mount the face plate on the tail stock. Face plate will be centered and can be brought up to platter to apply needed pressure - at least that is the plan.

I really like your idea of using the plug to force the platter off the faceplate. I'm going to try it as soon as I make my first platter. Soon I hope. Problem is most of the wood I presently have is green and I am not sure I want to try a platter with green wood.

Thanks again for all your good advise.

Doug
