Aftermarket banjo vendors

Mike L in Trabuco Canyon, CA

>Hi all,

The banjo on my Delta 46-111 is an older design with a nut on top that must be loosened to adjust the position of the tool rest. This is rather inefficient to use so I'd like to replace it with a banjo that can be adjusted quickly. Can anybody recommend a vendor for such a product and are there any factors I should consider before purchasing? TIA.

Regards,

Mike

>The banjo from the 1224 should fit just fine (available seperatly). I replaced the stock Jet banjo with one and it was like rediscovering the lathe all over. Huge difference.

>Hi Peter,

I'd be interested in that but I can't find it (or any other bajos) among Amazon's lathe tools/accessories.

Their website doesn't provide much info on the banjo alone. Do you recall how much you paid for it? TIA.

>It used to be listed on their web site as a seperate item, but I can't seem to find it either. Give them a call. I know its still available. I can't remember exactly how much it was, but it was over $200 for banjo and 11" tool rest. Well worth the cost. Best banjo on the market.

>Thanks Peter. Their website suggests that they still sell banjos as upgrades for non-Oneway lathes so, as you said, it's probably just a matter of contacting them. I don't doubt that their banjo is in another league from the one I currently have but at >$200, I might just start considering buying the whole lathe (which will probably happen eventually anyway so why delay the inevitable?). ;^>

Mike

>Woodcraft stocks them. I bought one about 2 years ago for LOML's Delta when I added riser blocks. It was about $90. Works fine. You'll need to make a new lock plate. It's just a 1/4" thick round steel plate sized to fit the mortice under the bed and a center hole for the screw. The screw that holds the lock plate on can be a real bear to remove. As I remember it's 6mm. There are 3/8" square drive allen wrenches that make removing it much easier.

>Mike,

In Amazon,if you go to tools & hardware, then wood lathe, it's #50 on the list of items. Delta 46-707 price $53.37.
