>I'm looking for an intense one day class in turning.

Either San Diego or Riverside is within a two hour drive. Not likely to find one where I live in Palm Desert. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

Thanks

>How about an intense 3-day weekend? Craft Supply in Provo, UT has some big names who instruct there occasionally. Of course it's a ten hour drive or so.

He is as good an instructor as they come. There are also others in the LA area who advertise in the AAW Journal and More Woodturning.

Also, go to the AAW website and find the links to the local clubs in the area. There are several and they all have a list of mentors who would be able to give you the instruction you are seeking. Sometimes these mentors are doing it for the price of joining the club, and that can be a lot cheaper than paying for a day of instruction.

>Ken, I'm in Riverside and have spoken to Steve Dunn. He does one-on-one and also classes -though I think his website is out of date. www.lawoodturning.com Stuart Batty is staying with him for a while while he makes his latest video, he told me he would be available for teaching in April.

Have you thought about AZ as well? they are almost as close on the other side of the I-10. Are there any woodturning clubs in the dessert? Failing that, feel free to join the Inland Woodturners. We meet the 3rd Sunday every month from 2-4ish. The meetings for the next three months are in Riverside very close to the 91. We don't have any membership fees.

>Ken,

I'll make a pitch for the San Diego Woodturning Centre too. They are in my backyard (less than 5 miles away). They offer all kinds of hands-on classes and use the "Stuart Batty" approach to turning education. Glen and Ernest are great instructors and very flexible with what your desires might be.

The SDWTC also has big name people coming through regularly. Hans Weissflog will be there in April, Michael Hosaluk in June and Bin Pho in October.

>I also recommend talking with Steve Dunn. I took a three day class with Stuart in Jan, and a one day follow-up with Steve a week later. Time and money well spent.
