3 Wet Hackberry Vases

>Showing these little vases which are wet turned. The hackberry is interesting with the black ebony spots or threads. I put some turquoise Coran in a couple of splits before turning. These are turned down to 1/16". Doing a Binh Pho class this weekend in KCMO (Turn About Wood)and will need these for piercing and airbrushing. This is my 3rd session with him. I do find it easier to turn segmented bowls thiner than the wet ones. The small vases are about 3" x 4 1/2". They do turn fast and easy, I like the distortion caused by drying, especially around the knots. Ends were sealed with super glue after turning and the rebate is super glued to add strength and support. I have used Deft clear wood finish on these, one time to seal before Air Brushing. GT

Hello: The vases look nice. You mentioned that you put corian in the voids. How did you do that? Did you get a piece of corian and grind it up some way and then mix it with epoxy to fill the voids? Thanks in advance. Jared

>Take pieces of Coran and smash with mallet or hammer. Use whatever it takes to keep from splatting. Thin Super glue works good, it is faster than expoxy. Other crack fillers are coffee grinds, sawdust and inlace. GT
