Finishes for use W/Prisma Markers

Jennifer@Indy.USA

>Hello Everyone,

What finishes are you using with your Prisma Markers? I've used Watco Danish Oil and had good results, but I'm looking for something that won't yellow quite as much, but also won't remove the marker, obviously. I'm thinking of a wipe on waterbase poly. Also, I've only use my Prisma markers after I burn, and I'm wondering if those of you who use them without burning use a sealer of some sort first? I can tell that if I didn't have the burned lines to keep the pens from bleeding that it would be quite ugly. Any suggestions for this?

Thanks for all your help!

Jennifer

>Jennifer, I think Art Listemann uses Krylon spray acrylic. It is water white. I think it would be a better choice than watco over color.

>Hi Jennifer,

I always anticipate seeing your work, seems like you are in a creative zone these days, that is great for us all to see your work as it develops before it sells...then we'll never see it!

Take care,

Jim

Try Krylon Fixatif on a sample piece. It's the stuff they use to seal pastel chalk drawings. John Jordan recommended it too me years ago for some project. On some paints, dyes etc it doesn't change a thing and on some it does. Sometimes it's not enough of a finish and sometimes it's the perfect finish. I use it mostly for brushed and sandblasted pieces but it might be perfect for what you want to do.

IIRC that's what Andi Wolfe uses.

>There is another Krylon product, the Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze, that seems to be the same, but in a thicker consistency. The advantage is that after two coats of that product I can level it off with some of the finer MicroMesh, and it does not look sprayed.

>Jennifer, Andi Wolfe told me that she uses several coats of Watco Danish, a light coat of Krylon Fixitif spray, and several coats of Krylon UV resistant spray. I've tried her sequence a couple of times and it worked for me.

Thanks Everybody : )

>I ran out and bought a can of the Krylon clear....before I saw the posts about the fixitif. I've never seen or heard of that before...so I'll keep my eyes out for it. I've got two coats of the Krylon on and so far so good.

Thanks again!

>Jen:

As fixitives are used mostly by artist to protect their work you may have better luck looking in art supply stores for it. Lots of them on internet, like Dick Blick etc., do a search on "art supply" may find one in your town. Michael's also.
