MONO CASPI

Jim King-Iquitos,Peru

>I was out in the jungle yesterday with a group from British Colombia, Canada . I thought this photo would be interesting for people to see. This tree would have in excess of 15,000 board feet of lumber. A lot of turning blanks.

>I just had to say. Brings back great memories. I went to Iquitos,Peru in the mid 80's for a vaction. I had a great time. Big adventure. It was my first time to the Amazon area.

I am trying hard to NOT become a turner. I don't own a lathe. But I find myself reading more posts in turning forums. I think I am getting sucked in.

Thanks for sharing the post. I also enjoying seeing your vases posted a few days ago.

Run While You Still Can

RevDoug

>Curtis, sell the computer. Get rid of the land line and switch to cell service only. Move into an apartment that barely has enough room to turn around in. The vortex you are getting close to is about to get ahold of you. You cannot escape.

Seriously though, I don't know if there a more enjoyable hobby. Costly, but gives so much satisfaction to see your thoughts, ideas, dreams come to reality as that piece goes from a hunk of fire wood to finished product. VERY ADDICTING.

Turn 'em round,

RevDoug

>It is still a cheap hobby when you do the comparison to a Bass boat or 4x4 Jeep or Golf outings or new motorcycle.

Don't get me wrong, all the other hobbies are great, but we are not out of line on cost either.

How?

Jorge Castaneda ~ Downeast Maine

>Jim,

That tree is of a differente league as the trees around here, how do you fell such a tree?

Two man saws?

and once is fell how do you preces it, 15,000 bf plus all the waste must be many, many tons, so moving it must be out of the question, Pit saw?

Inquiring mind needs to know,

Gracias!

Jorge

>It is not feasable to cut such a tree. No skidder can pull it out even if you spent a couple of days to cut it down much less be able to put it thru a sawmill here.

That those hobby choices are exclusive, and you can have only ONE.
