Some new work: *LINK*

David Hammond, in Powder Springs GA

>I finally got around to fooling with my photo booth and snapped some shots of three new peices, and two slightly older ones that I haven't posted either.

Let me know what you think of these peices. All five are simply Watco and wax, a very simple finish I'm finding I really like, all the way around.

The first photo is the best one I've taken yet, I think - please let me know what you think of the photo's as well.

Any comments are welcome - just follow the link for the other photos so I don't just load up the bandwidth here.

>Wow, I guess I need to go back to the drawing board? :o) I realize that some posts just get lost, and lots of folks just don't say anything, or plenty of other reasons exist for zero responses, but after three hundred hits... Just have to kinda smile at that one!

>Oh no! David I meant to post on this - I couldn't get even one picture to come up on your website yesterday, despite several tries. Was planning on returning today! (still do once I get to the office)

Same problem today

>Same thing this morning Dave. The background color and text of your website load, but no pictures appear. I'm sorry I didn't mention this to you yesterday. I know how frustrating it is to not see the responses you expect or hope for.

>David, I think you're having some troubles with your website. It was not very kind of us to not inform you and I apologize for that on behalf of everyone. I honestly did intend to go back today and check again and was dismayed when I saw your second post.

I just now tried again from home and I got through - kind of. Several of your images have "remote linking" errors on them, and the others are photos of wonderful bowls.

I looked at all of the new work you are doing and your work is both beautiful in its form and execution and in its selection of woods.

I would encourage you to work on your photography technique. The images could be crisper, brighter, and have more depth to them with just a little work and it would really help your web presentation represent your work in a more realistic fashion.

I recently bought a photo box. It was about $70 on an ebay auction and it has changed my photo quality immensely and effortlessly. In fact, this is it but the small version. I have the 30"x30" version.

I definitely want to encourage you to keep posting here. You're very talented and have much to share with the people here. Don't let this get you down.

>Hi David,

I suspect some people saw the error message, and never clicked through on the link -- they might have been expecting a photo, as I did.

I looked over your site, and had no imaging problems at all (Internet Explorer w/Windows XP). I also use Mozilla Firefox, so I'll try with that and let you know.

You've got some real nice work displayed, and your web site is off to a great start. The photos looked fine to me, though you can always perfect lighting, etc...

I would suggest giving dimensions for all the pieces, though the most recent work does have measurements. I hope your business really takes off, and I really like the cute dog !

>David -- just looked again w/ Mozilla Firefox, and did get some remote linking error messages -- for example, on Gallery IV, I wasn't able to see the Dap cut bowl, but could see the others.

BTW: what does Dap cut mean ?

Best,

Brad

>Hey Mike - Thanks so much for the post, and the heads up about my website. Man, free's aggravating! The thing loads for me, of course, so I don't know what's going on, but I hope to move on from that sight before too long.

The photography I took was my best yet - but I still was only using a sheet for a background, and some ohter white cloths draped over whatever was available to create a "booth." So, when I get a little cash, this booth and website sight definetly need attention. It was hard to find the balance between clarity - picking up every wrinkle in the sheet - and the right "haze" and shadows...

Thanks Mike - Keep up your good work; its encouraging, and some of the stuff you and Keith are doing, is really where I'd like to be going.

>Thanks for the comments Brad - some folks are having problems with the site, and I didn't realize the problem with my photo in the post, or I would have just used Ellis' upload...

I definetly need work on the photos; I think turning the bowls are easier than shooting them!

The dog, Zach, is the greatest; he's a great shop dog.

Thanks.

Re: Some new work:

>Hey Brad - Like I said above, I've got to figure this website problem out, it's terribly frusterating!

The dap cut is the wedge you remove when felling a tree: one level cut, then a thirty degree or so angle into the level cut, cut in the direction you want the tree to fall - then a level cut on the backside of the trunk, about 2" above the other level cut.

So, obviously, a normal dap cut even on a 18" diam. tree is rather small. Only because this tree was 105 yrs old, and 36" across, was I able to turn such a bowl.

Thanks!

David
