Tools for building your own website?

Ronny Eelen

>Hi,

For those people who already have their own website, which tools did you use to build it?

This is not going to be a professional purpose website. Just a regular personal site.

Any suggestions?

thanks

>There are a lot of free tools to make personal sites and many ISP's provide them for their users. Yahoo has a free website building tool including templates, etc. for making simple sites.

Template Monster.com has thousands of web site templates consisting of multiple pages and some include e-commerce capability. Prices range from $29 to just under $100 for the complete template.

If you have Dreamweaver or Frontpage,(or know someone that does and can help) you can modify the templates to fit your specific content. You can also have Template Monster's service modify them for a fee.

The templates contain all the necessary HTML code, Flash Animation, graphics files, etc. for the site. Once you buy and download the site, it is yours to modify any way you wish...

Not associated with them in any way...

good luck...

For a freebie, I would suggest Trellian, it has gotten good reviews and is a WYSIWYG program... the link is below..

Call me a neanderthal (or Luddite), but...

I just did a check earlier today, and I have probably 500 files on my site. In all fairness, a good many of those were filled out from boilerplates I had written earlier. Still...

Do a search on the 'net for web design mistakes. You will find plenty of places to look for dos and don'ts in your design. Don't implement the things they suggest you not.

Test with browsers other than M$ infernal exploder. Even though it has a huge market share, there are other browsers in use. There are even (horrors) other computers.

Not everyone is on broadband. Test your site on its server with a dialup connection to see what many users will see in terms of load time.

All users will have a slower connection than your internal mirror machine that you'll be testing on. Keep that in mind when you're testing your (shudder) big graphics and flash.

>I'm using NAMO 5.5 to build and maintain all my sites, available off eBay for between $10 and $20. The latest version (6.0) is available through the link below for around $100.

NAMO is similar to Front Page and DreamWeaver, but IMHO, easier to learn. It also contains a hundred or so templates.
