>Anyone have any experience with or ever hear of Extrema bandsaws? Still looking for the right one at the right price. Would appreciate any help here cause I need one but still at odds with the regular models (Jet Grizzly etc.) I keep hearing bad stories about most popular brands. Thanks for all the knowledgeable info available on this board.

>I don't know what you have heard, but I have the 14" Jet and have never had a problem.Runs smooth, true and I cut some pretty heavy logs with it,wet and dry.I have the 6"riser block also.I ran four 10-12" logs through it just this weekend like they were butter. With the right blade for the right job,it does everything I ask, from flat work to preping logs for turning.Good luck>

>Hi Russell, I would stick to a known brand; you will see posts here on occasion praising the warranty and service of several of these companies.

When a tool does break (it happens) it's nice to know there is product support and spare parts available when you need them.

I am actually quite impressed with some of the bandsaws on the market, the Jet and the Grizzley should work just fine for you.

>Hi Rusell,

I've never heard of the brand that you inquired about. I have the Grizzly, two friends have had the same model (1019) for several years and now a third pal has purchased one. Other than minor issues none of us have had a problem, (knocking on wood for the friend that just got his). What minor problems we have had, have been addressed quickly and positively by Grizzly. I have several Jet tools and again, no problems to speak of. These companies can't afford to be putting out junk, some may do it in the short run but those that have been around for the long haul, like those I've mentioned, just can't do it, they won't survive.

I have the Delta 14 with riser block and I feel the same as Anthony. Mine has worked absolutely great both for resawing and for cutting green wood bowl blanks. The only complaint I have is the band rollers. I bought it used and they were already there. Green wood leaves fibers and junk stuck to the bearings and you have to clean it off which is not the easiest thing to do. I'm going to switch back to the metal blocks that are original.

>Thank you Anthony, John, Keith and Mike for all your timely responses. I need a resaw bandsaw and can only afford a 14" model. I wasn't sure if I could do that with a Jet of that size. Thickness is no problem, mostly I'll be in the 3" range. Also I did not know if the Jet would allow me to simply run the wood through without alot of maneuvering back and forth as the wood went through the blade. Maybe I am trying to be too simple. I will be cutting various exotics and some oak and maple. If you would know if this can be done I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks again.

>I've cut hundreds of bowl blanks and done lots resawing on my Grizzly. Recently I resawed 8" mahogany for frame and panel work I was doing. No problem with any of these operations the key to smooth operating has been correctly tuning the saw and a good blade. The good blade may be the most important. You want a silicon swedish blade such as a Timberwolf from Suffolk. The Grizzly, Jet, Delta will all perform these operations satisfactorily.
