Question and Club Gloat

Question and Club Gloat

Mark Kauder, Phenix City, AL

>I got a letter from the AAW yesterday informing me that our club had been given an AAW Educational Grant of $700.

Our application was for 2-3 Jet Mini lathes and accessories so that we have lathes to take to local schools, etc for demonstrations, and so that we can do hands on classes for our beginners.

So.....Ideas on the cheapest place to get Jet Mini's? I see that General Industrial has scratch and dents for $189 plus shipping.

Thanks

Mark

Congrats.

>So when one of the kids gets their eye put out by a flying splinter or chunk of wood. Who does his/her parents sue? Your club? The AAW? You as an individual?

The answer is all of you and particularly the one with the deepest pockets.

I dread situations like this in our litigious society.

I wish you good luck though.

>Our club is doing the same thing now. We have purchased 10 lathes and are setting up a trailer to take them from school to school. We must inform the AAW that we are haveing a AAW event before we go to the school then we are covered under the AAW insurance for liability. We cut a deal with Jet for 8 of the lathes at cost. The others we donated or won by our club. 10 chucks were donated and 10 sets of tools were donated. We plan on being ready for our first instruction in a couple of months.

>Mark,

That is great news! I don't know where the best price would be but I do know that I'd check with Jet and other manufacturers about donations and discounts for educational use.

I started on those Cole jaws, on hold a bit while I finish a few other shop chores. Thanks for the helpful info and good luck with this endeavor!

>Scratch and dent machines are available but mixed in with them is out of spec machines also. You can live with a scratch or dent but a tailstock that is 1/16" higher than the headstock is another matter. DAMHIKT
