>Forget about the stains. They add "character". {8>)

Remove any actual rust with steel wool and kerosene. Clean the lathe with kerosene. Add a little oil to the kerosene and put on a light coat to prevent rust when turning wet wood.

With a little oil, the kerosene is as good as WD-40 and a lot cheaper.

USe BBQ fire starter if you want. It is 1-K Kerosene.

>like me you have a Jet Mini and have not gotten around to ordering one of the square washers! Wax made the slipping problem with the tailstock worse. Note to self: Order the silly washer, Carole!

>Steve, you might want to pick up and try a can of "Never Dull." It's a wadding polish we bikers use to keep our metal parts shiny without looking scratched. It also works well on light stains on lathe beds, saw tables, drill press columns, etc. I wouldn't be without it.
