Turncraft Pro vs Jet Mini

>Does anyone know of a comparison including these 2 lathes that is a "table like" comparison like Consumer Report does, or something similar. The Turncraft Pro looks good and Penn State tells me the motor now has a better cooling fan and is excellent but that's their opinion. But I don't want to be penny wise and pound foolish as they say. Thanks guys.

Buy the Jet Mini. It has a proven record with 1000's of satisfied users. You cannot go wrong with that one.

One more reason why I would rather buy Jet is the availability of spare parts.

>i spoke to the people at penn state about the psi lathe, although it looks close in specs to the jet, its made in a different country (china as opposed to tiawan for the jet) and they are not the same in quality or finish.. i wanted to see if i could get the extension bed as it s a lot cheaper. but it would not fit.

if your serious about learning to turn and want to enjoy it.. i'd say get the jet.. and start saving for a bigger lathe as you'll probably want to do things that are bigger and out grow the jet. i have a jet.. and i love it.. its a great lathe.. you will enjoy it .. and its definitely worth the price difference.

and remember.. the lathe is just the beginning.. your going to spend 3x-4x more on tools, chucks, grinders, finishing products, etc... its fun and very addictive. i love to make sawdust.. but its what comes out of the sawdust that makes it worth it..

best of luck..
