Back among the living

Joel Hunnicutt

>Rolled in from Baltimore between 3 and 4 yesterday morning. I'm glad I hit the road Sunday night, otherwise I think I would be snowed in. The American Crafts Council show was an unqualified success. Ended up putting work in 10 new galleries as well a the lobby of a new building in DC. The retail portion of the show was very strong as well. Thanks to all you WC folks who stopped by. It was a pleasure to meet all of you. Here is a pic of the display for the show. The picture was a bit dark so I did a quick fix in photoshop. Hope it looks OK.

Some ????

Jennifer@Indy.USA

>Hi Joel,

Great display and wonderful looking turnings sitting on them! The show sounds like a great time. Wish I lived closer. Joel, could you tell us a little bit about the round pedestals? I'm getting ready to make some myself and would like to know how you attach the tops? What kind of paint did you use? What diameters and lengths do the Sono Tubes come in? I have a show the first weekend of April and have to supply my own pedestals. I'm thinnking I might try to attatch three of them together each at a different height to stagger them. I was thinking this might eliminate any chance of them being knocked over and give a little bit of height variance for the display. Any insight would be great!

Thanks,

Jennifer

>Jen,

Don't know if Joel does, but you can get easy round pedestal stock ar Home Depot of Lowes. Just go to the masonry dept. and pick of some Sona-tube footing forms. More than substantial enough, and you can then cover them with carpet, cloth, rolled paper, or even veneer to make your displays.

>Those round ones in the middle were sonno tubes with 1/4 inch hardboard tops. I just glued blocks on the underside of the top and slipped them down in the tube. The paint is just flat black krylon. The square pedestals I actually like better. They are corrugaled cardboard with a mdf top. They fold flat in a box for transport. Only down side is that they are not as stable with some of the really large work on them. They are available from ezpedestal.com for about $30 each.

>The pedastals are a nice display.

The bright colors of your work stand very proud of the surface.

Great mixture of shapes and colors.
