>Thanks for the link John. You should be able to find compact flourescents in all sorts of temperature ranges at better aquarium stores.
Any clues as to how to find tripod lighting that isn't hugely expensive? I'd like to have 3 - one on either of 2 sides and one on top.
I like that underlighting fixture they sell, sure would make lighting undersides of bowls easier. Way too indulgent though.

Underlighting works well with jewelry but is tricky for other things especially for bowls. I use a large piece of white plexiglass bent to a gentle curve to underlight if needed. I seldom use it because it makes pieces "float" and customers who ask for it don't like it after they see the images.
I buy the quartz worklights mainly to get the light stands. I do use the lights but you get the light and stand for about $30. The cheapest light stands from photo houses start at about $60.
I've built 2 different boom arms to help get the light over the set and make it easily adjustable. I'll be glad to share those ideas if anyone is intersted.

>Well of course, thank you. I have been looking at the work lamps from HD - $58 for one with 2 500 watt lamps, er..fire starters. I guess I could buy a reflector and a few daylight bulbs to replace the fire starters.
A boom is what I'm really searching for. Never seems to be a ceiling lamp where I put the photo tent.

>This sounds like a great deal... take a look at the link below and let me know what you think... I am looking for a set up for my pen photography and bowls up to 12" (If I can get some that don't turn into funnels... LOL)
From the looks of it you save a bundle instead of buying the individual pieces...

I'm going to go to my local store and look for those lamps today if I get time. I have a homemade wooden stand that will ajust by adding segments up to about 24". You have to be a woodturner to build this. The reflectors you can buy from discount stores really cheap. The light box can be built from wood, carboard, PVC etc and just add white cloth. Without actually checking prices this could all be done for less than $100. probably a lot less if you really look.
I'll try to dig out my stand in the next few days and take some photos. Got to work a basketball game tonight so I won't get home till about 10:30

That's pretty cheap. Add a weight to counter balance the lamp and it should work. john
