Paging RonZ ...

>Hello RonZ,

A fellow, Don Henthorn from the Messages forum sudjested that you may be able to answer my question.

Since my wife and I are planning to spend a couple of weeks in Israel I was wonderring if there is any woodworking in Israel?

Is this something that pople do there?.. Woodworking as a hobby, or are there any small shops, or kibutzes that make custom furniture, etc...

Searching the web did not show much of anything other than furniture industry - not what I was looking for :)

Thank you in advance,

Felix.

>Hi Felix,

There is woodworking going on here, it also depends on what you're specifically looking for.

Many shops are closing due to the bad economy and inexpensive imports. The also rules out the high end furniture makers. There are a few kibbutzim that do woodworking and I can point you out to those. A friend of mine calls himself Dovetail furniture and makes furniture without any screws or nails. I had to turn for him some special hinge pins for a closet/desk he made. It was palo santo and contained its own oils, self lubricating.

There is a descent ammount of artistic woodworking and lots of carving.

Let me know what you're looking for and I can see what's available. You can contact me before or when you arrive.

All the best,

Ron Z.
