>Here is one of the smaller of the 3 big blanks of ambrosia Maple I have. This is some nice stuff to turn I have turned several small bowls from my stock but man what a pile of shavings the bigger bowls make. the rough out measurments is 13 1/2" X 4 1/4" I have it soaking in the alky bath now.
>All that pretty wood going out as shavings - sob. As I don't have a coring system, what are the limits? Could you have gotten another bowl out of the center?
>I have the McNaughton system and this is exactly why you want a coring system. With care you can get two or three cores out of a 12 or 13" blank. It's not only that you save money on the wood, but you save the wood itself. Sometimes the wood is free and priceless at the same time.
I have been practicing with my coring system over the last few days and can core a bowl in about the same time it would take to hog out the center. I get a smaller blank or two and don't have the shavings all in about the same amount of time. Don't worry though, I still have plenty of shavings.
>yea I have thought about getting a bowl saver But It would Not do Much on this blank all the ambrosia markings are on the bottom of the bowl all i would get is plain old maple. If you will look at the first pic you will see all the markings and the second pic of the inside that Im just getting to the marks It should show more on the iside when its finished.
Cant buy it all at one time! but I will soon own one!
