Curly Ash Bowl!!

Jim Ketron

>I have been giving The new Pm 3520 a work out Here's a Curly Ash bowl. I seen the curl through the rough chainsaw marks and gave it a good coat of anchorseal. I didnt want to waste any by cutting it down to fit the Jet Mini. so I just waited to turn it until I got a bigger lathe. Im glad I did. Its soaking In the alky bath right now.

>Man, that's some pretty wood! Both pieces! It's so much fun when you have something like that to cut. I hope they end up as nice as they have started out!

>Very nice grain pattern. I am jealous - I don't have the time to find such pretty pieces.

does the pink stay?

Tom Sontag - St. Louis

>I have noticed that pinkish coloration in some ash blanks before but sold them (as blanks)before I could ever find out if the color keeps. Anyone know? My assumption is that it fades like box elder pink, but I am only guessing.

Nice hunk 'o wood...

>Tom The red part is where it is still green and wet when I first cut the blank it was white but the whole thing turned red after I seald it with anchorseal. It will go away when the bowl dries out.

>Hi Jim,

That's some awesome looking wood! Ash is one of my favorite woods to turn, but I've never seen any with such curl! I'm looking forward to the finished pic on this one.

By the way, I've had very good luck alcohol soaking ash, so hopefully yours will come out as well.

Good luck,

Thanks for the pics,

Mike
