Some New Pens

Jim Shaver - Oakville, Ontario

>Hi,

I have been enjoying making some pens lately, the CSUSA large pens, Gentlemen and Statesmen pens.

These blanks are stabilized box elder burls.

I am posting a few here, any one else been having fun with these kits?

Take care,

Jim

>They look great Jim. How much more difficult are they than the slimline twist pens? What do you need to make them by way of size of bushings, drill bit and anything else?

thanks,

>Hi Ruth,

Thanks for kind words.

It's a bit trickier to drill than the slim line (7MM), the bits are bigger, the bushings and hardware all related too. As far as assembly goes it's a simple press process, no transmissions (Yeah).

The bits are 37/64 and 15/32, you will need at least a 7/8 blank for this sized pen.

I turn with a skew and sand out with micromesh to 12000. They are nice to hold and use.

Take care,.

>Hi Jen,

Thanks very much. I know it's not artistic turning but it involves a lathe I enjoy it!

>Jim,

I beg to differ.....they are beautiful and they do indeed have artistic elements. Now stop that down playing how purty they are.
