>Here is a small version of Brad Sells usually large bowls- this is 11"Wx7"H, and most of his are measured in feet! I added this as the only non-turned piece in my collection- I tell new turners this is what happens if you have to chase an out of balance piece around the shop! His skills and technique are a wonder-the walls are a uniform 1/8"-with a chain saw??!!
>When Brad first started doing those bowls they were just slightly out of round with little bumps here and there. They really looked like they had been turned and then warped on their own. Then he started doing bowls like the one pictured. One big step, and I don't remember when that happened was when he made large bowls with hand prints imbedded in each side so it looked like you picked up the bowl when it was wet and your hands sunk in. The hands pushed out on the inside so it really gave the illusion of a pliant material. Really cool.
Then he started the series that I call slot canyons ( I don't remember what brad calls them). They are really convoluted with natural bridge arches and tunnels going through. They are all incredible. I can't wait to see what he brings in next time.
