Utah Symposium question

Pat Riley in Salt Lake

>Im not really much of a turner, besides turning some tools and handles I dont do alot. Or at least havent yet, but plan on doing more.

My question is, since I only live 30 miles away, should I attend the symposuim at BYU this June, or should I take the $220.00 and buy more tools, books and dvds about turning?

Any opinions? Thanks,

>I'd recommend you go. You need to see how the pros do it, learn from their demonstrations, and then head out to buy what you need instead of buying more tools you'll never need.

>I agree with Ron. GO to the symposium. Besides the instructional benefits, I find that every time I go to a symposium - learning new stuff, seeing new tools and techniques, meeting other turners - I am recharged - enthused about turning. Usually the only problem is - what newly learned thing to try first.

>Go to the symposium....you will not regret it. The people you meet will be an inspiration to you that is far more valuable to you at the stage you are at. Just be thankful that you do not have to travel 1500 miles (lots of gas) and spend several nights in motels. That savings alone will pay for the symposium and a bunch of tools.

So here I am :)

I posted it on the MESSAGES board yesterday wonderring if there is any woodworking in Israel?

We are going to be visiting Israel shortly and I was curious if this is something that pople do there... woodworking as a hobby, or small shop custom furniture making...

Searching the web did not show much other than furniture industry - not what I was looking for :)

Thanks in advance,

Felix.
