Dance!

Keith Tompkins

>At the Niche ceremony, some of the winners gave an acceptance speech.....one in particular has stuck in my mind. Especially since I have never danced, yet my winning entry was titled "Merangue".

Her speech referred to a song, comparing life to a dance.....you can sit, or you can dance...... "I'd rather dance!" Her comments were greeted with a great applause.

On a personal note, her words really hit home. Too many times I have just sat when I should have danced. Too many opportunities I have let slip by. After the ceremony, I couldn't sleep...her words echoed in my mind all night.

I have just posted one word above my lathe to remind me every day....DANCE! From now on, that's what I intend to do.

Thank you all so much for the kind and encouraging words! Keith

If you can sing, sing. If you can't sing...

>SING LOUDLY.

I think it's funny that we start life unaware of our limitations and the influence of others opinions. Our limitations are taught, not inherent.

I adopted the SING LOUDLY philosophy when I had my son. I have walked around DisneyWorld with a blue and green mohawk hairdo, I dance around the living room with my daughter (plainly visible from the street), and I sing at the top of my lungs in traffic.

Feels great, and I encourage everyone to do it just once.

So if we meet at a show and you ask me to dance, as long as your not my partner, I'm with you...

:-)

I Hope You Dance

Jim Shaver - Oakville, Ontario

>Hi,

The words from a song by Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance" mean a great deal to me. I recieved an incredible gift from a friend a number of years ago, hand written in a frame were the words to this song.

I read those words from start to finish at the begining of every day at my desk...they calm me and put into prespective what matters and how I fit into this world...and these words are giving and powerful.

Here are those words....

Lee Ann Womack - I Hope You Dance

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder

You get your fill to eat

But always keep that hunger

May you never take one single breath for granted

God forbid love ever leave you empty handed

I hope you still feel small

When you stand by the ocean

Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens

Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance

I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance

Never settle for the path of least resistance

Living might mean taking chances

But they're worth taking

Lovin' might be a mistake

But it's worth making

Don't let some hell bent heart

Leave you bitter

When you come close to selling out

Reconsider

Give the heavens above

More than just a passing glance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance

(Time is a real and constant motion always)

I hope you dance

(Rolling us along)

I hope you dance

(Tell me who)

I hope you dance

(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

(Where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small

When you stand by the ocean

Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens

Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance

And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

Dance

I hope you dance

I hope you dance

(Time is a real and constant motion always)

I hope you dance

(Rolling us along)

I hope you dance

(Tell me who)

(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

I hope you dance

(Where those years have gone)

(Tell me who)

I hope you dance

(Wants to look back on their youth and wonder)

(Where those years have gone)

>OK....I have put my kleenex away now.

Keith, it sounds like you had quite an ephiphany while you were gone.....congratulations......I dance every day, in my choices of work, in my choice of relationship, in my ways of being. There are moments when I forget...and then something reminds me that the music is still playing, I just stopped listening for a while.....

keep the dance...

I can't dance. Unless of course you count that funny thing I did this morning when I stepped off the curb. I'll just have to stick to singing. John

Can`t dance?

Bob Hackett

>It`s not that you can`t,it`s that you won`t.

The question is,why won`t you?;^)

The only folks I know who can`t dance belong to a church that says they can`t,the reasons are between them and God.I get the feeling most of them want to dance though so I dance for them whenever I can.

I especially enjoy doing what my daughter terms "Gonzo ballet".My son calls it "Getting happy feet".

Mainely,Bob-One of my favorite sayings is "Keep my feet from dancing".

>Nope, I'm second fiddle in my band (Irish traditional band called Aisling). Our primary fiddler is a very talented college student who started playing with us at the tender age of 14. Unfortunately (for us, that is), she's off to play with a touring band beginning this summer.

>First - Congrats Keith! I've been way too busy lately, and I've missed just about everything that's gone on here, but I'm glad to hear things are going great for you!

The picture you posted of the winning peice is incredible, wonderful peice for sure.

I've loved Leanne Womack's song since it came out - dance indeed!

>Hi Bob, I know my Bucksport humor is known only to me and I know you weren't quoting from The Book of Proverbs, but be careful. I hope it's ok to note that Solomon posted some good stuff there. 'G' :) TIC and any other icon that excuses my often inappropriate levity.

I won't dance around the issue; thinking to lighten up a heavy thread was an an unintended affront. I apologize, knowing I'll do it again. :)
