>David -- I'm surprised no one has answered yet. I have the 1236, but no vacuum capability yet. You might want to re-post your question as "Vacuum Chucking Question" ; I think the specific hardware just needs the correct threads, etc...

Mark Mandell - Gone Round In Jersey

>As far as a connection goes, the EZ-Vac available at Packard is simple, very effective, and cost efficient. Composed of two fittings and a length of 3/8" hollow lamp threadrod, it's inserted through the MT and held with the rotating fitting from the outboard side. You simply mount the MT fitting, then trim off the excess rod to allow the outboard to fit snug. I added a rubber "o" ring to the MT fitting for better seal and the same thing can be done on the outboard side if you like. Nice thing is that if you upgrade and sell the lathe (whatcha mean "if"), you can get a new piece of threadrod to fit the new machine.

Connection is then made with 3/8" hose with a 1/4" adapter. I routinely pulled up to 27" on my 1236 with that connection.

Now vacuum pumps is a different question, but don't forget to incorporate a line bleeder valve and vacuum gauge in your set up so you can adjust the pressure and have an indication of how well your seal on the piece is working.
