Maple Burl Weed Pot/Vessel

>I don't even know what to call this. I guess it's a weed pot since it isn't hollowed well enough to be called a hollow vessel. It's about 6 1/2 inches tall and about 8" in diameter. In the photo, it looks round. It's really sort of pumpkin shaped. Let's hope this feeble effort at posting a photo works.

>I like it. Can you post a picture with a side view?

Very nice grain and shape on the top.

>Thanks. Side view, as per your request. Sorry again for the poor quality photo. I haven't figured out how to change the display size yet. If I could, maybe there wouldn't be so many visible pixels.

>I really like it Barry. When I saw your first shot I thouhgt it was an 'inny' as in belly button. Your second shot reminds me of a 'bad apple'......

I'd call it Mysterious

>I really like how simple the shape is, (very similar to an apple) and how deep the figure goes, almost as if it is a planet. I don't know why but when I see burls like that, I find myself sitting and staring at them for a long time, looking for things inside, almost like seeing shapes in the clouds.

Outstanding.

>Actually, it would be an upside-down apple. It's slightly larger in diameter towards the bottom. I love burls and maple is my favorite. This particular burl came from an exotic wood dealer's scrap box. I cleaned his box out at about 50 cents a pound. (Boy, is he gonna be pi**ed!) Funny you would mention how simple the shape is. It just sort of "happened". No major game plan here, no consulting the "golden rectangle", just started removing wood I didn't like. I think simple shapes are the best....and sometimes the absolute hardest to get "right"! Thanks for the compliments.
