Maple Burl Bowl

>I've been spending more time watching and learning here than I have actually posting. But I always look forward to seeing pictures of new work posted here, and thought that I should post one of my own.

This bowl is about 10 inches in diameter and not quite 2 inches thick, from a spalted maple burl. It's probably Western Big Leaf Maple, but I'm not positive. Sanded to 2400 and finished with several coats of oil (Minwax Antique Oil).

>When working with a beautiful piece of wood, that's just about the highest complement available. Thankyou.

Mike, I got that from.........

TD

>Lane Phillips during a class. He and I agree substantially that "it is our job when given a nice piece of wood to not screw it up". There are times to embellish a piece of ordinary wood but when given a nice piece of wood with lots of character I like to see the wood without all the extras. You did a good job.

>Thanks Barry,

The color is natural, no stains at all, other than the Minwax Antique Oil, which darkens it slightly.
