Extras Sightings?

Mark Mandell - Gone Round In Jersey

>Appear to be a few more than 5 in that pic. Of course David and Wendy and a spouse or two along for the ride (and/or heavy duty shopping in New Hope and environs) can be accounted for, but who called Central Casting for the Laurel & Hardy stand-ins?

Sorry about that

>If you look closely, you may see Bill Grumbine and me (second and third from right) and our spouses Lisa and Candy (fourth and fifth from right) in there too.

What a great dinner was had by all. I can't wait to hear how the turning weekend went for the students.

>The weekend was, in fact, a terrific experience! I have done quite a bit of turning, but had not really dabbled in hollow forms. Anyhow, the dinner Thursday night got things off to a rolling start. For anyone who hasn't done one of these weekends, it is a fascinating combination of instruction, advice, hospitality and good food. As a bonus you get to see works by a number of other turners in David's collection.

If it wasn't obvious, the five of us who spent the weekend were a group from Pittsburgh who took over all the five spots, as well as the local Bed and Breakfast. Four of five of us are on the board of the local AAW Chapter, so it was nice to spend some time together without worrying about finalizing the next program!

Hard to summarize the experience in a few sentences, but the experience lived up to my admittedly high expectations. I think the others who attended all felt the same way. I would heartily recommend giving it a try if you are into that sort of thing. If anyone has any specific questions, I'd be happy to try and answer.

>I'll echo all that, Craig. And add that it was great to see WC friends again.

I was the rookie turner of the group and made my share of rookie mistakes. On the hollow vessel, I got the bottom too thin. Cutting off the last little bit from the outside bottom, to release the piece from the lathe, put a hole in the bottom. Oh well, now it's a planter with a drain.

Then on the natural edge bowl, while working the inside, I moved the tool rest and forgot to check clearance before turning on the machine. Looks like someone took two large bites out of the edge.

Can't say enough good things about David's classes. A memorable weekend for sure. Now if only we could have navigated a little better while driving back to Pittsburgh...

Best, Ted

>I also echo nothing but postive thoughts on the whole experience. David made us at home in both his home and shop. He gave each of us his full enthusiam and attention. Kind of hated to come back to the real world, especially with Ted leading the way...

>I don't think Tim checks in here. So it was all his fault...

>Perhaps he wrote out the directions... You know about those Docs and penmanship...
