Off the subject?

tom libby

>A realtor friend who is helping me sell my turnings asked if I could build miniature replica houses from photos taken of a newly sold house. The replica would be used as a gifts for the customer. I'm awaiting details, but assume that the replicas would want to be light (foamboard?}, small (1/24th scale), but still have pretty good detail.

Any thoughts out there?

>Run. Quickly. That is a lot of detail work without much reward. If they are offering you lots of money, consider it - then say no.

Lots of detail . . .

Fred in NC

>Means lots of time. How much would you have to charge if, for example, it took you 40 hrs to complete? Look at the prices for some doll houses.

Also consider the scale. at 1/2" per foot, a model can easily be 24" long. Kind of large for a mantelpiece. Where would you keep it?

Maybe a facade rendering would be more practical, such as a flat model of the front of the house, say no more than 2" deep. It can hang on the wall.

I wonder how much a realtor would be willing to pay for such a model, considering he has to pay for it out of his commission.

Just 2 cents worth of ramblings . . .

>As a former REaltor - I don't know that these are great closing gifts - unless maybe they are real high end homes.

How about this idea. Take the turned military plate idea from a post further down & instead hook up with someone who has a laser machine & have them laser engrave your turned plates with a photo of the house. I personally think this would be A: better received by the homebuyer &

B. funner & easier for you to do.
