>Thanks to all who posted regarding my question as to tapping the drawbar on a MT2 chuck.

Did it yesterday and it works perfectly!

Also a while back ,I think it was Garret who posted an article for making a tool rest.

I have been wanting a short rest for a while as the one that came with the Jet mini has been cumbersome at times.

I broke out the "CheaP"

H.F. wire feed welder yesterday ($100.00 on sale and it had no problem with a 5/8ths bolt that I cut with the $57.00 H.F. portaband) to make a neat tool rest.

(It don't have to be pretty,it just has to work)

I've also been wanting a 12"rest so it's off to Lowes for some 5/8th's stock.

Thanks again.

( the belt on the lathe is still screwed up and I haven't heard from JET)

>I've had a lot of fun with my 90 amp welder from HF. The first thing I heard was you can't weld up a 1" bar with that thing. Well I've made a dozen or more for myself and others and no one has brocken one yet. I found the trick it grinding a pretty good taper or resess so you can fill it with weld. The welder doesn't penetrate the metal very far because of the low amperage but if you build up the weld in layers it holds pretty good. To test one I put it in my vise and beat on it with a 3lb hammer. I almost broke my vise but the weld held.

>I bought my welder a year ago Christmas.

THe regular price(Does HF have a regular price?)was $237.00.

I was surfing their site and saw it had been marked down on the net to $99.00.

I called the store and gave tehm the model # of the one I saw on the net.

The said yes and I was lucky because it was on sale for $157.00

I asked if they still honored website sale prices and the reply was yes.

I drove to the store with the printed web page and got the welder for $99.00.

Had a similar thing happen on the porta band.127vs.57.

Sometimes it works backwards, the store price is lower than the web, but my store always gives the lowest price.

I usually get the extended warranty.

I had a little misgivings about the porta band but it's costing me $.38 a week to know that I can cut metal without fighting a jig saw.
