wood burning wire

>I have a razortip wood burner. I am using the create-a-tip pen. I need to buy nichrome wire, but they sell only a few inches for 8 dollars. I can be 30 feet for 5 dollars on e-bay. My question- Which gauge is the most common/practicle for a beginner?

Thanks for your help, Lan

I've built several burning tips. I don't know what the gauge wire I have is. I have 2 sizes. One came from an old dryer I chopped up, the other came from a heater some one threw away at the junkyard.

You get more than you'll ever need from either source but it was a challenge to cut up the back of the dryer to get to the wire. It did relieve a lot of stress however so if you need to lower your colesterol just take a pair of heavy duty tin snips and have fun destroying a dryer.

>Lan,

I've bought some Nichrome, 0.9, 0.8 and 0.6 mm diameter.(~AWG 19,20 and 22).

The one I use most of the time is the smallest one, but it depends on your use. I make some branding patterns and sometimes need tight curves, and I found the 0.6mm to work best.
