Importing a lathe from the UK

Ruth Harding

>I have a chance of a 3 phase Union Graduate short bed bowl lathe for 500 UK Pounds. I am wondering if anyone has recently imported a lathe from the UK, and if so, what kind of import/customs duties will I be charged? Also, what shipping charges did you have?

Thanks,

Ruth

>Can't help you with the shipping, but I've always thought the shortbed Union Graduate is the coolest looking lathe ever made. Good Luck with the purchase.

>Can't help you with the UK, but I had a 1000lb Vicmarc shipped from Australia to Texas. It cost $900 and some change from Ouzzieland to L.A. and another $800 from L.A. to the Houston area.

No help here.....

>Ruth, I have a shipment of VB lathes that just arrived from the UK. I plan to pick them up tomorrow in Atlanta. Expect freight to be high because the ocean freight companies from Europe want to be paid with Euros instead of dollars (or the equivalent) which means that as the dollar slides the cost of freight goes up. Good crating will be a must. If you can find an antique dealer that deals in UK antiques or stained glass you might be able to get the graduate included in one of their containers. That is what I would try to do.
