Mini lathe belt too short?

EagleS.C.

>LAst week I changed out the belt on my jet mini lathe.

The belt was sent to me from JET in the summer, I held off replacing the old belt until I thougt the worn belt was giving me problems with vibrations.

The problem is the new belt does not allow the banjo to slide past the motor.

It is also difficult to change speeds.

This belt came from Jet and I intend to contact them but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

>Eagle, do you still have the old belt that you can compare the ID on the belt, or the actual length?

I had the same problem last year. My belt was not on the same step of each pulley, so the motor would not come down. I counted steps from one end of the pulley, and set them properly.

>Well Fred I have the new one on and am struggling with it to make it work.

I don't really want to take it off to measure.

The second part of your post has me confused.

I'll have to count them but I thought the pulleys were identical as far as the number of steps.

Just installed in different directions.

If that is the case the fix will be easy ,

thanks.

>Nope I checked,

The biggest pully is over the smallest on both sides.

The situation you described is similar to the way I received mine but the belt was out of alignment causing uneven wear.

That's when I called and got the new belt.

Still waiting for a reply from JET.

Jet Mini Belt

>Original belt for the Jet Mini with single speed motor. (Not the VS, in other words, not sure about that one)

Poly-V 240J 3 rib

Poly-V means multiple V's, also called serpentine.

240 is the belt size = 24"

It has 3 ribs sticking out of the belt.
