Console Table

Thomas Skaggs, Foothills of Mount Level

>Howdy to my turning friends. I am not a prolific turner so I don't have much to contribute here. But I just finished a console table that has some relevance to this forum so I thought I'd share.

The base is black walnut, the top is curly maple. The medallions on the aprons (both sides) are birds eye maple and the medallions on the top are cherry burl. I made a special wood face plate to turn the smaller cherry medallions. The medallions are "inlaid" into the piece.

This was my first integration of turned forms (other than spindles) into furniture. It was a positive enough result that I hope to explore that avenue more in the future.

Tommy,

Very well done my friend! The turned medallions add a very sophisicated touch to this table.

So,...are you done making us all look bad?

>Hi Tommy,

You really are a "design guy" at heart, that looks great! I would never have imagined that look with the cherry burl in the top, I can see many hands running over them...a truly great looking piece of work!

Take care,

Jim

Great Design!

>Hi Tommy,

That is really cool! I think it scores a 10 in the neat-o factor. I like the burl pieces, but it is the overall shape of the top, with the slightly curved ends that I really like. Beautiful work, thanks for the pic.
